Jissu Sengupta was born in Kolkata on 15th March 1970. He is an Indian actor, producer, television presenter, and anchor well-known in both Tollywood and Bollywood. In addition to working in Bengali and Hindi cinema, Jisshu Sengupta has also worked in a few South Indian films. Jisshu Sengupta began his acting journey in a Bengali TV series named “Mahaprabhu” in which he essayed the role of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and gained much recognition. The success of this debut made him a star overnight. After that, in 1997, he made his acting debut with “Priyojon” which failed at the box office. In 2002, he portrayed the role of Thakur in Sukanta Roy’s ambitious venture, “Chelebela.” After that, he starred in a lot of critically acclaimed films, though they were unsuccessful.
His collaboration with Rituparno Ghosh gave him that much-needed fame. He went on to deliver some of the finest performances in his career, says the acting academy in Kolkata. Sengupta ventured into Bollywood and his cameo appearance in Anurag Basu’s directorial “Barfi!” He also played a supporting character in “Mardaani” alongside Rani Mukherjee. He won the Best Actor award for the film “Abar Aranye.” Jisshu also proved his acting debut in “Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi”, “Shakuntala Devi” and “Sadak 2.”

In 2016, he became the judge of Dance Bangla Dance Junior.
Sengupta has been an avid sports lover, says the acting academy in Kolkata. He was the captain for Bengal Tigers in the Celebrity Cricket League. His playing skills have been appreciated by many. He also supported the Kolkata Marathon in 2014 along with other celebrities.
