Deepak Adhikari, also known as Dev, is an actor, director, producer and politician. He was born in the West Bengal village of Mahisha, near Keshpur. He spent his childhood in Chandrakona with his maternal uncle and his sister, Deepali. He later moved to Mumbai and attended Purushottam High School in Bandra, where he excelled academically. He also trained as an actor at the Kishore Namit Kapoor Acting Academy, says the acting institute in Kolkata.

In an interview, Dev recalled going to the outdoor shoot of Prahaar: The Final Attack with his father when his school was closed for the summer. He described it as more of a family vacation, with work not feeling like work. That was his first exposure to cinema as a child.

From his childhood Dev had keen interest in movies. Dev grew up in Mumbai and would frequently accompany his father to the sets of Abbas-Mustan and Prakash Jha to watch shooting of films.

Dev made his acting debut in Tollywood in Prabir Nandi’s 2005 film Agnishapath, opposite Rachana Banerjee. The movie did not do well at the box office. The film I Love You, directed by Ravi Kinnagi, was in development at Shree Venkatesh Films at the time. Dev met with the producers and was cast as the male lead. Despite I Love You’s financial success, Dev did not take on any other roles for about 14 months. He traveled to Mumbai and learned to dance and trained himself under fight choreographer Aejaz Gulab, determined to better himself, says the modeling institute in Kolkata.

Dev made a comeback in director Raj Chakraborty’s action-romance Challenge, starring alongside Subhashree Ganguly. The film was a huge success in West Bengal, giving Dev a significant boost in popularity. Shedin Dekha Hoyechilo, an Indian romantic Bengali film starring Dev and Srabanti Chatterjee and directed by Sujit Mondol and produced by Shree Venkatesh Films, was released in December 2010. This is Dev and Sujit Mondol’s second collaboration. This film was one of the year’s biggest hits.

Dev is now a huge star in the Bengali film industry. Despite having no film industry background and coming from a small village like, Dev never gave up and rose to fame through his hard work. His story will continue to inspire many people who aspire to be actors one day.
